About D'Addario
D'Addario traces its string-making lineage back generations in Salle, Italy, but the modern company was founded in 1973 by Jim and Janet D'Addario and is headquartered in a large manufacturing facility in Farmingdale, on Long Island, New York. From that base, D'Addario has grown into the world's largest manufacturer of musical instrument strings and accessories, with its fretted-instrument strings sold alongside sister brands under the same corporate umbrella, including Evans drumheads, ProMark drumsticks, D'Addario Woodwinds reeds, and D'Addario Orchestral strings.
On the guitar side, D'Addario's core innovations are the NY Steel high-carbon steel core and Fusion Twist winding process used in its NYXL electric strings, engineered for tuning stability and break resistance, and the ultra-thin XS coating technology that extends coated-string life without the muted feel older coatings were known for. That XS coating earned a notable third-party endorsement: Taylor Guitars switched its factory-installed acoustic strings to D'Addario XS Coated Phosphor Bronze as standard equipment.
