About House of Octave
Julian Reyes, MM, Berklee
M.M. Performance, Berklee College of Music
House of Octave was founded in 2026 by Julian Reyes to help players choose instruments and gear that sound great and hold up — without the marketing spin or pay-to-play reviews.
About Julian
Julian Reyes is a multi-instrumentalist with a Master of Music from Berklee College of Music and over a decade gigging on guitar, bass, and keys. Before founding House of Octave, he spent years as a gear buyer for an independent music retailer, where he evaluated hundreds of instruments and audio products for the sales floor.
He started House of Octave to bring that buyer's-bench scrutiny to honest, player-first reviews — judged by how gear actually plays, sounds, and survives the road, not by spec sheets or sponsorships.
Our Review Process
Every product featured on House of Octave goes through a thorough evaluation:
- Hands-on playing — instruments played and gear used in real practice, stage, and studio settings
- Tone & build assessment — sound quality, playability, and construction judged by a trained ear
- Reliability check — evaluated for durability, serviceability, and how it holds up to gigging
- User reviews — aggregated feedback from verified purchasers across platforms
- Value analysis — price-to-performance across beginner, intermediate, and pro tiers
