About Ibanez
Ibanez is the guitar brand of Hoshino Gakki, a Japanese company whose roots trace to a Nagoya bookstore founded by Matsujiro Hoshino in 1908 that gradually added a musical-instrument department. The Ibanez name itself dates to 1929, when Hoshino began importing guitars made by the Spanish luthier Salvador Ibáñez é Hijos; by 1935 the company was building its own instruments under a shortened version of that name. Nearly a century later, Ibanez remains one of the most established Japanese guitar manufacturers, with a catalog spanning electric guitars, bass guitars, acoustics, amplifiers, and effects pedals.
Ibanez's modern identity was shaped by its signature-artist program: the JEM, unveiled with Steve Vai at the 1987 NAMM Show, introduced a super-thin neck, a locking tremolo, and the guitar's now-famous carved handle, and it directly inspired the RG series that followed the same year and has been the brand's flagship electric-guitar shape ever since. Joe Satriani's JS model and a run of hollow and semi-hollow Artcore guitars favored by jazz and blues players extended that reputation for artist-driven design.
