About AKG
AKG was founded in Vienna in 1947 by Dr. Rudolf Goerike and Ernst Pless. According to the company's own account, it makes microphones and headphones, and its product range today spans professional headphones, headphone amplifiers, condenser, dynamic and tube microphones, wireless microphone systems and integrated systems.
The K240 Studio is the headphone that earned this page. It is an over-ear, semi-open design built around AKG's XXL Varimotion transducer, with a detachable cable and a screw-on 6.3 mm adapter for connecting to studio gear. It has a 55 ohm impedance and a 15 Hz to 25 kHz frequency response, and weighs 8.5 oz. AKG positions it for professional work such as mixing, mastering and playback.

Why we recognized AKG
The House of Octave Top Brand recognition isn't paid for and can't be applied for. We award it to the brands whose gear consistently stands out in our player-tested category guides. AKG earned it on the strength of the products below, judged the same way every product on this site is: assessed on build, tone, and playability, weighed against what players actually report over years of use, and ranked on merit.

AKG K240STUDIO Semi-Open Studio Headphones
A semi-open, over-ear studio headphone built around AKG's XXL Varimotion transducer. The semi-open cups give it an airy presentation, and the 55 ohm impedance suits studio gear. The cable is detachable, so a worn lead is a spare part, and a screw-on 6.3 mm adapter covers both plug sizes.
